Cat in the Bag
I’ve got another one of those photo series from my archives, this time from when I decided to paint over the funpack I got from last year’s National Day Parade. It’s a DIY process of sorts:
Finished bag. Photo from my post on Sangju: Mint Spirit.
What you’ll need:
– Bag
– Acrylic/fabric paints
– Paintbrushes you don’t really care for (because acrylic paints are evil)
– Mixing palette (it could even be cardboard)
– Lots of patience
Uncovering all these art supplies I bought so long ago proved useful for this venture. I was actually a little surprised that the paints were still usable! I took this opportunity to use up all my old paints since I was going to be moving soon.
Painted a film of blue for a base.
More colours, just because. I was also experimenting with textures at this point, feeling out the canvas.
And then I got bored and decided to doodle some.
My pretty paintbrush with all its marbled colours! I got sick of the bold colours and decided to paint over everything in a thin film of white (by diluting white acrylic paint with water), showing off the brush strokes along the way.
Drew a cat and some goldfish with a fine brush. I used a light pink shade so that any mistakes could be easily washed over. But thanks to the powers that be of sketching on the fly, I didn’t have to go through the trouble.
Lastly, a quick outline to finish things off, plus some stripes to balance the bottom.
My back ached for a while after that, but hey, I got myself a hand-drawn cat bag for my trouble! It had been a while since I’d done something remotely artsy.
I’ve always missed it. TwT
