The colour red is soon to be upon us! I’ve been featuring this shade less as a main feature and more as accents as I’ve grown older, so I’m glad that Zalora’s selection of Chinese New Year pieces echoed my sentiments when I checked out their festive collection – red interspersed with blue and even black pieces (accented with gold to balance the sombre lack of colour). I still have money in my Zalora Wallet after all, gotta find the perfect opportunity to use it up. :p
I think I’ve mentioned before that I’ve also outgrown the superstition of having to get something new for the Lunar New Year a while back… a couple of years ago, in fact. Not being pressured to buy new clothes is good for my attempts in recycling seldom-worn (sometimes statement) pieces in my wardrobe, and it’s always a pleasure to find fresh combinations with what I already have. But I recently came back from a trip to Japan, so of course I couldn’t help but come into new garbs – these flare shorts, penguin tabi socks, and delicate origami crane earrings were new additions to my wardrobe after the trip… not that they’d be new during Chinese New Year, but close enough, yea?
I took the plunge in these beautiful origami crane earrings in a small store in Asakusa in Tokyo. I’ve seen origami crane earrings before, but had never believed in the longevity of those that weren’t lacquered. These were, and it made all the difference. Shasha even got a pair for herself after she convinced me that the washi used in these were nicer! Dare I say, twinsies? ;)
I’ll mourn the day when these pair of flats no longer holds itself together – the heels are already peeling off, but I’m not sure if I should bring this cheap (but oh so comfortable) pair to the cobblers. At least it served me well in South Africa.
