spending time with people who put up with me.
Some pictures I took when Evey and Nick came over from San Diego for a day:
Succulent-housing baubles at 3rd Street Promenade.
I introduced them to Beard Papa’s at Sawtelle. Apart from their famous cream puffs, my favourite is their strawberry shortcake. Evey is using her cup of tiramisu as her shield in here. ♥
Veteran memorial grounds spring up occasionally on Santa Monica beach.
An old lady with a beautiful head of silver I spied at the Santa Monica pier.
Sometimes I get tired of going to the Santa Monica beach, but I never tire of looking at the people.
This post marks the last day that Deb was here on US soil. Deb’s interest had previously been piqued by Runyon Canyon Park, so that’s where we went hiking the afternoon before she had to catch her flight back to Singapore. Like all hills in the Hollywood area, the peak offered such a scenic view of the Los Angeles cityscape. It was a beautiful finale to her last moments here. T^T
I was so tickled when I discovered this flyer posted on the message board near the entrance! Apparently it’s a real thing, Terminator Too.
View of the Los Angeles cityscape from the halfway point.
We took a route less traveled, evident by how it was unpaved. I guess we bit off more than we could chew, because the climb was precariously steep… we later found out that we had veered off onto a ‘trail’ that wasn’t even a trail. Deb was so afraid of the incline that we backed down halfway after she refused to follow my lead because there wasn’t anything for her to grasp onto. Frankly, I was scared too despite resolutely trudging on ahead.
The climb down was worse than climbing up. I couldn’t stop laughing because it was so absurd.
I don’t remember what possessed me to wear a dress for this:
And then came our typical photos:
Deb’s hair turban! I broke down laughing the first time she made it when we first lived together; so ridiculous!
Here, have a video where I’m terrible at narrating, as Deb demonstrates a how-to. Plus some eagles. No, apparently they do not fly in pairs:
The road back down to civilisation was littered with tiny acts of rebellion. I love these colourful breaks in the monotony of laxly-enforced regulations.
And then we realised that Deb was in a spot of trouble because we didn’t book a shuttle to the airport until it was too late. Things worked out in the end though, and the night was spent saying goodbyes as she departed. :(
It feels so surreal thinking that that’ll be me in approximately two months; I’d been saying goodbye to Singaporean interns (Jesca, CY, Nad, Jan, KJ, Pete, Grace, Des, James, Deb & Jac) as they departed for home for the past two years that it feels weird to be on the other side. (*w*)

Deb and I visited the Getty Center for the first time in February this year. Since then, I’ve been there three more times (the most recent being yesterday). We didn’t have time to check out the exhibits on this trip, as the architecture is amazing; instead we spent our entire day exploring the garden and joining the free Architecture Tour, learning about the history and meaning behind the stones that made up most of its unique look. Of course we also took a lot of pictures.
Deb was too scared to sit on the ledge! It was not a problem for me, since I’ve a history of doing pretty stupid things for the sake of a picture. XD
We headed down to Five Guys down at Westwood Village after our culture trip. It was Deb’s first time at this burger chain, so I had to get her stuffed with one of those mainstream things on the last dregs of her stay in the US. I never knew that they gave out of peanuts for free! True to our kiasu Singaporean nature, we naturally set to work taking full advantage of the situation. :P
Oh hey I found the peanut centipede.
This was the first time I wore this Forever21 romper. It mixes the playful nature of a romper with the sophistication of longer chiffon sleeves and a sturdier camel-coloured material for the bottom. I thought it was novel. I’m not much for rompers; the practicality of a clothing item ranks high on my list, and rompers do not making going to the restroom an enjoyable task. But I fell in love with the sturdy material of the bottom half of this item, and the contrast that it made with the sheer green chiffon was just too interesting!
