Independence Day 2011

With the 4th of July coming round the corner again, I realised that I’d neglected to recap the stunning pyro displays witnessed last year. It was AMAZING.

Of course I had to rope in Jesca for the sillies. XDD

The group of us headed to the Pasadena Rose Bowl at first:

I have to mention that I’m a total sucker for arm tattoos.

Drink from one of our kind car neighbours!

Just in case you don’t know how much of a sucker I am for arm drawings. Also, this guy apparently owned a restaurant. The name and address was gone with one of the guys we traveled with though.

The Rose Bowl proved boring, since it was family-oriented, and we were looking for something a little more active, so we headed down to Long Beach:

And there it was, the most beautiful display of pyrotechnics I’d ever seen.

I’m still unsure regarding patriotism (leering into nationalistic pride), since it seems to lead to segregation from what I’ve felt, but then this seems to be a discussion I’ve yet to flesh out within my mind. A good celebration is still a good celebration though!

Also, I think The Game is in the plans for this year’s celebration. A little bit excites!

[edit] re: pride:: George Carlin seems to be my mind’s amplifier, in a charmingly coarse, in-your-face kinda way.

Flowers & Wheels

My life has been revolving around le bicycle of late. This was what I wore to bring my bike for a tune-up a month back, because unbeknownst to my highly n00b-ed eye, the tires had gotten loose from it’s bearings, and that was why I had been having such a hard time pedaling and getting anywhere. Just yesterday, I had the same problem and found out too late that my back tire was flat… or punctured. Well props to me for sort of diagnosing my bike all by myself, I say; even if the process violated all personal hygiene rules.

I’ve come to realise of late that my self-preservations skills are a tad faulty- the unfortunate collision with a low-hanging tree branch yesterday may or may not be the cause of my enlightenment.

Or the fact that I biked for the first time today since my bike accident two weeks ago, and did not learn my lesson of how having heavy things in my bag greatly increases my chance of getting reacquainted with the gravel (the last time I was carrying my laptop and a watermelon. This time, it was my laptop and a three-litre bottle of laundry detergent).

At least I didn’t fall this time. Also, body holes are healing up nicely. That ought to count for something.

The accident happened way after these photos were taken, which accounts for the lack of red, blue and black…maybe shiny yellow. Side note, this may be the longest my hair has ever been.
