    Friday marked the last day of school. It was also graduation day. Having never seen how it’s done in other countries, I was pretty excited about it. The previous day was a pretty accurate indication of what to expect (sans teacher farewells), so the graduation ceremony didn’t come as a complete culture shock to me. However, Ottie and I were quite the awkward penguins when it came to the national pledge and song; we opted to put both hands behind our backs, at rest.     Sangju: Mint Spirit

    Ever since I started the week of visitations to Ottie’s schools up in the mountain of Sangju, I had been eyeing the sheets of melting ice that had formed in sparse spots around the grounds. It was February after all, and winter was coming to a close. I had to take whatever signs of winter I could get my hands on. This was my favourite out of the school outfits, not least because I’m a sucker for complementary colours.     Sangju: I’ll Have Everything in Pink

    The third day of school was spent at a different school on the same mountain for middle and high schoolers. The sunrise was particularly breathtaking that morning: I remember commenting on how I finally understood what I had always thought to be grossly exaggerated picturesque landscape paintings. These scenes do exist; those painters weren’t making it up. Re-acquainted with scenes from the school: Winter flowers.
