Pastel Swallows
I was in a pastel mood when I dressed to meet up with Yuunsama, a good friend I’ve not met up with for the better part of the year. We had a wonderful little photoshoot before I left for the States way back when if anyone still remembers. Time flies by so quickly; we’ve known each other for a decade now!
My outfit features frills, lace, and a pair of divine socks from Sammy Icon. I was recently approached by the Ukrainian company over styling their products; and with my newfound socks obsession, how could I say no to more quirky socks? Also, with what little I know of Ukraine’s history and the current furor over its political unrest, this opportunity was a breath of fresh air to have something fun (and normal) to learn about the country. I loved their branding ‘Made in heaven, raised in travel’, and the odd little stories that accompanied each product at the UA section (I had the help of Google Translate). The socks were thin enough for Singapore’s hot summer weather but surprisingly durable. This particular pair I’m wearing is Swallow Grey, which I folded in at the top to hide the red band in order to better fit my pastel colour palette. Thank you Sammy Icon!
We had brunch at Common Man Coffee Roasters, a popular cafe downtown. In fact, it’s right below BoCHINche, which I wrote about in here.
Yuunsama had a cup of Flat White and the Common Man Full Breakfast: Two free-range organic eggs in any style, back bacon, sausage, grilled tomatoes, chorizo hash browns, Portobello mushrooms & house-made chorizo baked beans, with artisanal sourdough toast.
We both detest baked beans, but I gave this a shot and it turns out that their house-made baked beans were absolutely delicious. I could eat an entire bowl of their baked beans if they serve it. I so would.
I had a glass of Fresh Orange, Carrot & Ginger Juice and the Fish Burger: House-made fish patty, creamy coconut bok choy, grilled tomatoes, romaine & tartare sauce on a fluffy brioche bun, served with rocket salad.
This was a gamble of an order, since my feelings on coconut-flavoured things aren’t exactly positive, but I was in an experimental mood that day, and decided to give the fish burger a whirl. The coconut sauce was heavenly. My only gripe was that I ran out of sauce halfway through. Oh and I should have changed my salad side to fries. The raw vegetables were just too healthy for me.
We capped off our meal with Common Man Churros: Sugar-dusted, softer on the inside and served with luscious chocolate sauce.
This was slightly weird for me, as the insides were sticky and doughy, totally not the consistency I’ve been used to or was expecting at all. Yuunsama loved it though, but all I could think of was Churros Calientes, the best place on earth for churros (and hot chocolate). T^T
Can’t end the day without a selfie with Yuunsama. ♥
