Today I unveil a self portrait session that I’ve been really excited to share for a while now. I originally wanted to post earlier, but suddenly got struck by something that’s been making its rounds in Singapore; I spent the better part of two days confined to bed as the back of my eyeballs throbbed in pain, throat so parched I found myself waking up every three hours or so in the middle of the night just to quench it. Not to mention the inconvenience of occasional cold shivers that wracked my body at the most unexpected moments. Ugh. A whole lot of H2O consumption and Z’s later I took an abrupt turn for the better, and let me just say that it feels so good to be healthy again.
But I went off on a tangent there. I managed to snag some precious time to set up indoors, which provided the perfect opportunity for me to be a little more adventurous with makeup than I otherwise would have ventured with in public. I’ve missed this. My look features one of a few brands I’m pleased to share; I won a superbly soft Habutai silk scarf featuring nostalgic nintendo game Duck Hunt from RV Designs, a small design team all the way from Canada. I absolutely love how it appeals to both the geeky and sartorial sides of me, even though Duck Hunt was such an annoying game when I was younger… my package even came with a very personal letter, a touch that I appreciated.
A detail of the print is on my instagram. I wore the scarf as a double-knotted headband, one of the few ways in which Singapore’s tropical weather allows scarves to be worn. The look was completed with heavily-drawn eyes using my newfound love, the K-Palette 1 Day Magic Eyeliner (review here). I also attached a set of false eyelashes from my precious collection using the K-Palette 1 Day Magic Eyelash Glue. I’ve never worn it before, but this purple-tinged set of falsies has been in my collection for a few years now (as mentioned in my previous post, I’m an incorrigible hoarder).
I present to you my ego as an assault of colours:
Also featuring in my look are items from my recent collaboration with Shopbop, an online fashion boutique. This partnership has been such a pleasure, opening up opportunities for me to get in touch with brands that I wouldn’t normally approach. I’m wearing crazy cool crew socks from Stance coupled with a comfortable pair of Sam Edelman cowhide sandals, the two of which formed an unexpected seamless union due to the black heel caps of my socks. Shopbop’s website was really easy to navigate; I found it convenient that an item’s images scrolled through when I hovered over its thumbnail, saving me the hassle of sorting through all the tabs that I would otherwise have accumulated. I also got my awesome package a mere two days after I got notified that it was shipped via free express international shipping! That’s a record from anything I’ve ever purchased from the USA to Singapore. I very much am in love with the expedited shipping option from Shopbop, that’s for sure.
