FUZE Fashion Technology 2017

I’m back in Singapore and can’t wait to post about my trip to Japan over the last two weeks! However, before I do that I’m going to have to clear my backlog of posts. I had the pleasure of attending FUZE 2017 a week before my trip at the Marina Bay Sands, with many thanks to Daryl Goh who just returned to Singapore after pursuing a masters in Australia. Dude just came back and already has his hands full with professional and personal projects. When I came back from LA, I took a year off to binge on shows and sleep just saying.

Fashion is Tech FUZE2017 at Marina Bay Sands.

Epson fabric printing technology at FUZE2017 at Marina Bay Sands.Epson had a pretty large booth as one of the FUZE sponsors. They even brought in the machines used to create the transfer ink printing on display!

Lunch at FUZE2017 at Marina Bay Sands.I arrived just in time for lunch.

Traditional pastries at FUZE2017 at Marina Bay Sands.Yay rainbow kueh (Lapis Sagu)! I only eat them layer by layer if they’re rainbow.

Tea and Coffee at FUZE2017 at Marina Bay Sands. The plates of tea leaves and coffee beans set underneath the respective dispensers were a nice touch. Not only were they another form of labelling in case the label cards went missing, they also served to catch the drippings from the nozzles.

Tea and coffee at FUZE2017 at Marina Bay Sands. They even had takeaway cups in addition to porcelain mugs in case we wanted to hydrate ourselves during the conference! I was so impressed with this beverage station that I got DG to pose for the blog while he got himself some coffee.

CLO Virtual Fashion demo at FUZE2017 at Marina Bay Sands. One of the exhibits that were pretty interesting was this CLO Virtual Fashion demo. We didn’t get an introduction to what it was all about, but from the looks of it, it seemed to be a customisable virtual 3D software for designing clothes. I assume that it’s easier for manufacturers to tweak certain designs onto different clothing styles?

Juki digital sewing machine for manufacturers at FUZE2017 at Marina Bay Sands. The Juki digital sewing machines were also quite intriguing. These machines are meant for manufacturers who operate on a larger scale. The digital aspect of these sewing machines meant that the style of threading could be easily manipulated via bluetooth or LAN cable through a tablet, instead if having to manually adjust each machine. Pretty convenient!

ARPlanet Augmented reality fashion at FUZE2017 at Marina Bay Sands.A number of people also had fun trying on clothes through this ARPlanet augmented reality interactive screen. The clothes can be resized for best fit; however certain limitations were seen from a guy who was bigger-built but the shirt sleeves got too long when he tried fitting the garment to his width. This technology is still very much a work-in-progress, but I’m excited to see the day AR and VR successfully integrates into our perception of reality.

Ren and Daryl Goh at FUZE2017 at Marina Bay Sands.DG had to run off, so I quickly grabbed a selfie with him before heading into the conference hall.

Panel discussion at FUZE2017 at Marina Bay Sands: Renee Lodens from Travelshopa, Parker Gundersen from Zalora, Benoi Lavaud from Bluebell, and Anil Srinivas from Levi Strauss & Co. Modersator Stacey Halliwell from ISB.The first segment after lunch was Asia as Factory of the World: A Driving Force for Digital Innovation. This was a panel discussion moderated by Stacey Halliwell from ISB and included speakers Renee Lodens from Travelshopa, Parker Gundersen from Zalora, Benoi Lavaud from Bluebell, and Anil Srinivas from Levi Strauss & Co.

David Westhead from Royal Sporting House moderated by Norman Tan from BURO 24/7 Singapore at FUZE2017 at Marina Bay Sands.Next on the agenda was The Shoppable Experience: Digitally Developing Communities, featuring David Westhead from Royal Sporting House, moderated by Norman Tan from BURO 24/7 Singapore. I didn’t realise that The Social Foot was part of Royal Sporting House’s initiative to connect to the growing sneaker culture in Singapore!

Saisangeeth Daswani from Stylus Media Group at FUZE2017 at Marina Bay Sands.Saisangeeth Daswani from Stylus Media Group gave a very interesting presentation on Taking on Tech: New Disruptions. I think that her presentation was the most interesting of all, even with her using Sephora as an example way too much, and I learnt quite a bit about the trendsetters in adopting tech as well as a brief study in society.

Henry Holland from House of Holland via Skype interview moderated by Norman Tan from BURO 24/7 Singapore at FUZE2017 at Marina Bay Sands.Henry Holland from House of Holland via Skype interview moderated by Norman Tan for Extending Realities: Scaling Beyond the City. Apparently Henry Holland’s flight was cancelled due to heavy snow. The idea of replacing this segment with a digital representation was quite apt considering that this was a conference in technology. However, reception was pretty bad so I checked out at this point.

And that was the end of the Day 1 conference! From a consumer’s point of view, it was eye-opening to see how the manufacturing and retail industry in Asia work with advancements in technology.

Toilet selfie at FUZE2017 at Marina Bay SandsGot myself some toilet selfies because I really liked my outfit for the conference with the conservative front and a surprise open back.

Met up with Shasha and Ruru for dinner that day and we happened to come across some cool structures in the middle of being torn down (I think), so we took some photos there too:

Outfit of the day: Forever 21 open back long sleeved top, Zalia wide legged pants, Mango white shopper bag, Steve Madden tassel heeled boots.
