Beverly Hills Film Festival 2013 Part 1
One of my university mentors, MC, was in town for the Beverly Hills Film Festival in mid-May. It was the first posh event I’d ever been to, despite living in (relatively) close proximity to Hollywood, so I thought I’d dress up  bit. It was also the first time I wore my Romwe galaxy dress! It was as pretty as I thought it would be:
Romwe galaxy dress // Top Shoes boots // F21 earring // H&M ring // Gentle Fawn bag
Although, my dress came broken in the mail when it arrived a few days prior. Appallingly, the clasp at the back had dislocated. I had to bring out my home economics skills to mend that shit.
Finally ensured that my dress wouldn’t malfunction, I headed down to the iconic Grauman’s Chinese Theater at Hollywood for the film screening:
MC and I for an obligatory picture in front of the event backdrop. He had on a pretty cool Chinese shirt specially for this event! Apparently his wife Ina made him pack it. XD
MC had also brought the book that was a collection of all the work that had been done for his animation, [Vengeance + Vengeance]. My character sketches were included in it, along with all my schoolmates’, and it was the first time I’d seen them in print. I think it was 2009 when I drew those for his work-study when I was still in university. Such a blast from the past:
I remember being very proud of my flower guys then. The green monster opposite was not mine.
The only character that didn’t belong to me is the dark-haired girl by the spine on the right page. She was Tintin’s.
Two-page spread, and all of them mine. =3
I remember having had a red pencil phase for the longest time. I was experimenting with parasites. Yay parasites. Red monster and co. on the adjacent page are not mine.
And then because I had to, I drew some macho guy characters. The two sausage-lipped ones are mine. The awesomely-rendered monster isn’t.
The entire right page are mine, including the green-haired girl on the left. One of the characters shouts at the top of her lungs to enquire about the location of her bao. I might have been hungry at that time. I actually have some of the rendered girls at my portfolio!
MC met up with Gary after the animation screening, his Dreamworks friend from long ago:
They had an obligatory photo in front of the backdrop too.
And then MC treated the two of us to dinner at an Italian place nearby. Yum!
We then headed opposite to the after-party at the Roosevelt Hotel, where I took yet more pictures.
It was pretty fun, though I got annoyed at people blatantly pressing their namecards onto each other. Obviously I know not of the way Hollywood works. Or society. Oh well.
Stay tuned for part 2, where I, believe it or not, dress up some more, and meet another of my favourite mentors!
