At the Hammer Museum & CCDC at UCLA

One Saturday a while ago, I spent the day at the Hammer to catch the Llyn Foulkes exhibition, which was due to close the next day. I liked it. Then again, surrealism has a special spot in my heart. Some of his pieces featured abstract landscapes and plainly-featured pigs and cows too, which I appreciated as well- perhaps because of the sheer magnitude of the canvas on which they were painted on, but the texture of the paint on the farm animals lent this personal touch which brought them out of the sterile background.

Anyway, I didn’t take any photos of the exhibit, but Zen and I did spend some time around the permanent exhibits outside:

Zen at the Hammer Museum.Zen has this habit of removing her spectacles and putting on a docile face whenever I take a photo of her.

Zen at the Hammer Museum. Here’s one of those times when she lightens up! This picture is basically an embodiment of her chipper personality.

Detail of my Romwe black bow mesh leggings.Detail of my Romwe leggings. It was unexpectedly comfortable to wear, and the sewing-together of the mesh and bow was very well done. Considering the state of the other items from Romwe that I’d gotten, this pair of leggings was a redeeming factor in my shopping experience with the company.

The Blue Wall at the Hammer Museum.I pass by the Hammer museum occasionally, and this blue wall, À chaque stencil une revolution, still stands. It’s a particularly evocative piece on display in the lobby of the museum, and very beautiful.

My date with Zen over, I headed back home to grab a jacket before heading out to catch a performance by the Chinese Cultural Dance Club at UCLA. Ssen and Lilli were alumni of the club, so we got free tickets!

Lilli posing in Ela's maroon blouse at UCLA.Lilli had borrowed Ela’s blouse to wear to the event, and it suited her so well. Everyone was complimenting it!

I was confused over whether my remote was working or not, while Lilli displayed her versatility in posing. XD

Royce Hall, UCLA.

Stage at Royce Hall, UCLA.The last time I was inside UCLA’s iconic Royce Hall, it was for a Thao & the Get Down Stay Down concert with Jesca. I didn’t get wowed like Jesca obviously was, seeing as she was a fan, but I did love the opening act by the Morning Teleportation. They were so good! They sound a lot better live though; a lot of that energy was lost on record. Nostalgia aside, Royce Hall remains a wonderful structure to be in.

That Saturday turned out to be arts & culture day for me huh.
